Wedding season is here – in fact a wedding can be all year round but trying to decide what to wear is not easy. Jo Bryant gives you her top tips for what to wear for a country or city wedding and how to accessorise your look with simple or statement jewellery.
The Country Wedding
For a country wedding, you need to consider the setting you will be in; it will suit softer fabrics, so you should think about something less structured and more floaty. Do consider the level of formality; even if a wedding is in the country it doesn’t mean it’s less formal, so think about the environment and take your cue from the invitation – who has invited you? Consider their expectation on the smartness that would be required from you.
The City Wedding
For a city wedding you can opt for something more structured and perhaps more formal – remember that, in the countryside, dress codes are generally less formal than in the city. If you are in a hotel, for example, for a city wedding, you might consider something sleeker, more structured and fashion-led than you would for a wedding in the countryside.
Daywear or Evening Wear
The easiest way to distinguish between daywear and evening wear is to think about fabric, for daywear you might have something softer, less structured; for evening wear you are looking for something grander in a much more luxurious fabric. Remember your accessories – diamonds are usually only worn after dark, so daytime jewellery should be understated or less sparkly. You can still wear a statement necklace, but make sure you save the bling for evening events.
