Celebrating the launch of the Giuseppe Zanotti Design pop-up boutique
The Giuseppe Zanotti brand recently celebrated 20 years. What has been the highlight for you so far?
Every stage of the past 20 years has brought its milestones – seeing the brand expanding globally, launching menswear and ready-to-wear – but above all it has been my continued fascination with shoes. They will always come first since they are not just accessories; they are my universe.
What's the best advice you've received about running your own business?
I think that no one can give you better advice than yourself – for me it has always been to follow my passion, to stay true to myself and to love what I do every day.
What does the Giuseppe Zanotti woman stand for?
She embraces confidence and a feeling of freedom and the rush you get from putting something on and knowing it perfectly articulates who you are in that moment. Fashion today is about total self-expression. A woman can slip on a pair of embellished cage heels one night and a pair of streamlined, lightweight sneakers the next day. The beauty of modern luxury is the absence of rules.
You now design for men and women and, more recently, for the little ones as well. Does your artistic vision differ when designing for smaller feet?
Designing the newly launched ‘Giuseppe Junior’ collection has been a very exciting venture. Challenges are vital for me, stimulate my creativity, and I loved translating my designs into a first junior collection. The artistic vision and passion stays the same – our customers appreciate beautiful and innovative design and they seek it not only for themselves but also for their children.
Your love of music is apparent; in what way does this passion feed into or influence your creations?
It was music which initially led me to fashion as I was infatuated by the style of the artists which were on my LP covers. I loved fashion because I loved music. And music has always been a key element of my design process, drawing inspiration from the essence of every genre – from the rebellious to the romantic.
You've collaborated with a number of iconic musicians including Kayne West, Beyoncé and Rihanna. Is there anyone past or present that you’d love to design for or collaborate with on an upcoming collection?
We are excited to have just announced our upcoming exclusive collaborations with Jennifer Lopez and Zayn Malik with both collections launching for Spring 2017.
