THE BOMBER JACKET, THREE WAYS

Fashion

The legend lives on…

Bicester Village

Like the camel trench coat, the bomber jacket is a thing of wonder. Forever loved, forever reinvented and forever surging in popularity. In the spirit of all things trending, we scouted the catwalks to find three styles that will work whatever the weather.

1.

THE 90S THROWBACK

Take your style tips from the early adopters of the cult favourite and go for a slouchy or oversized satin shell. For a contemporary take, opt for a reversible version in blush pink or emerald green.

How to wear it: Choose one with zipped pockets and ribbed jersey trims – so it stays put when you roll up the sleeves – and grosgrain tags at the sleeves. Style it with denim trackpants and finish the look with high-top trainers or toughen it up with Dr. Martens. For the evening, you can lift it with an electric-yellow pleated skirt and pumps.

2.

THE HEAD-TURNER

Let the statement-making jacket be your weekend saviour. Let it be loud, lilac, crimson or – the way we’re partial to wearing it – adorned with a slogan print. The statement bomber is designed to lift the simplest of looks: think an LBD or a T-shirt and jeans.

How to wear it: However your mood dictates. Wear it with shades of grey and black or clashing checks – a key trend for spring and summer. Go forth and conquer!

3.

THE VARSITY STYLE

Part sports luxe, part off-duty baseball captain, the varsity-style bomber is a substitute for a black biker jacket on cooler days and the ultimate layering piece. We’ll leave it at that.

How to wear it: Whether all-black or two-tone, the varsity bomber looks best over a long sweatshirt, hoodie or T-shirt, with second-skin leather leggings or jeans to balance the proportions. Flat or heeled lace-up boots are the on-trend way to finish the look.
